Having finished art school, I began my professional career as a photographer and darkroom technician, spending long periods in darkrooms beneath Charing Cross Road. Somehow, this led to me spending 10 years in TV, this time in front of the camera. During this period, I wrote and had published a children’s book, plus drew cartoons and caricatures for a number of publications. A colleague asked if I would do a storyboard for him. I had no idea what a storyboard was, but did it anyway and realised that, with all the building blocks I had under my belt, this was probably the career for me. I have now been storyboarding features, TV and commercials for over 35 years, and have had the good fortune to work with some of the world’s greatest directors.
As a result of storyboarding, I have gone on to direct 2nd unit on a number of films, as well as many commercials and training films for the UK armed forces.
